I find myself still flush and aglow from the resounding victory of Nye over Ham last night. But I did muse that another nail in the coffin of Ham’s literalist view would make for happy fodder. That this find was made in Israel makes for palpable irony. The world can’t have begun 6,000 years ago if we have the remains of a 10,000 year old house.
10,000 year old house? Seriously? That is quite amazing.

Oh Matt, you silly, silly boy – god just made it LOOK like the house was 10K years old, to test your faith, and guess what? You failed! Shame on you, you backsliding, liberal, intellectual!

I really wish you had not used the word “flush” as it brings back unpleasant memories of Sunday when everything went down the toilet: the Broncos and I was doing my prep for the proctologist.
Both these guys have a B.S. Neither guy is well qualified to debate the science. It was a PR event for both. And Ham adds to what the Bible says. Most Christians do not accept his YEC view. http://textsincontext.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/in-the-beginning/
Here was a recent debate by real scientists.

Concur, there are much higher level people. Lot of people were saying the same sort of things – neither guy is a thoroughbred, why is this happening? Maybe Ham will get to build his boat. He was, after all, one of the sons of Noah. 🙂

I finally got around to watching the Nye/Ham debate, every time Ham mentioned “christian science” I cringed. I was raised in that religion, and my dear Mr. Ham, “christian science” (regardless of the size of the “c” and “s”) does NOT mean what you seem to think it means.

Did those naughty archaeologists also reveal the number of Lego Bricks they found in a sealed clay-fired pot with the Walmart logo embossed on the underside?
Well did they, hey? What you got to say to that Mister Smarty Pants evolutionist hey?

Matt, here’s a site in which you might have an interest, if you’re not already familiar with it: Recovering from Religion (RR</em?).
Possibly you could assist with some counseling there.

I liked this statement that was in an article posted by Alternet.org:

Yep, it was a strong tactical decision on Nye’s part to keep referring to “Ham’s model” and “Ham’s interpretation”. That is useful for two things: (1) it clarifies the actual fact, that not all Christians read Genesis the way Ham’s group does, and (2) it gives listeners the conscious ability to realize they don’t have to associate with Ham and don’t have to answer for him. They have a back door out, but choosing to put the burden of specific proof on Ham’s group.
And leaving people a way to save face is a very good thing.
